Music Performance Diplomas - extended use of pieces which have been removed from the repertoire lists

The 2021 editions of the repertoire lists for Music Performance Diplomas contain approximately 150 new pieces, many taken from trusted and popular choices submitted by teachers and candidates.

As part of the update, a small number of pieces have been removed from the lists. These are listed in the table below.

We understand that some candidates may be preparing diploma programmes which include pieces from this table. We are therefore extending the use of these pieces until 31 December 2021 without any requirement to seek approval. For recitals which are to be performed after this date, approval may be sought until 31 December 2021, and will be granted for the usual period (see below).

FAQs

Q1. I am preparing one of the pieces which has been removed, my recital will take place before 31 December 2021, and the remainder of my programme appears on the 2021 edition of the repertoire list. What do I need to do?

A. You don’t need to do anything. Examiners are aware that these pieces are valid for use in diplomas until 31 December 2021.

Q2. I am preparing one of the pieces which has been removed, and my recital will take place after 31 December 2021. The remainder of my programme appears on the 2021 edition of the repertoire list. What do I need to do?

A. Submit your programme for approval at approval.trinitycollege.co.uk before 31 December 2021. You will be able to add the removed piece as a listed item in the usual way, and the programme will be approved.

Q3. I am preparing one of the pieces which has been removed, and my programme also contains own choice item(s) which are not listed on the 2021 edition of the repertoire list. What do I need to do?

A. Submit your programme for approval at approval.trinitycollege.co.uk before 31 December 2021. You will be able to add the removed piece as a listed item in the usual way, and this item will be approved. If the complete programme is approved, the approval will be valid for two years.

Q4. I have already received approval for a programme containing one of these pieces. Is the programme still valid?

A. Yes. Any existing approved programmes remain valid for the period indicated on the approval letter.

Q5. Can these pieces be performed in exams after 31 December 2021?

A. Yes, if you have an approval letter, the programme will remain valid for the period indicated on the approval letter. If you do not have an approval letter, these pieces can continue to be submitted as own choice items, and instrumental approvers will consider programmes on a case-by-case basis.
