Updates to the Speaking & Listening Award from September 2027

Guide

This guide has been produced to support teachers preparing learners for the updated Speaking & Listening Awards from September 2027. It provides further information about the updated exam format and full updated assessment criteria as well as example tasks and structured activities designed to build learner confidence and develop exam awareness.

New structure

Across the suite, Speaking & Listening will move to a clear four-task structure:

  • Topic
  • Roleplay
  • Independent listening
  • Discussion

This creates greater consistency across levels and a more straightforward preparation journey for centres and learners. At the same time, the revised structure builds on features that centres already know well from the current test.

The sample videos show the updated format of the test and have been produced for teachers and students to familiarise themselves with the revised format. They are not intended to show model exam performance.
