DDTAL and teaching

Under legislation, holders of Trinity's Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (DDTAL) can use their qualification as a route to gaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.

Education and Training Foundation recognition

The diploma is recognised by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) as the equivalent of the Diploma for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). This means that holders of the DDTAL certificate can apply to the ETF and begin the process of professional formation. If successful in their application for professional formation, they will be given Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS).

Recognised teacher status

This is good news for holders of the DDTAL, as anyone holding QTLS is now automatically recognised as a qualified teacher in the primary, secondary or FE sector – there is no need for them to apply to the Teaching Agency for Qualified Teacher Status.

QTLS holders are paid according to the qualified teachers' pay scale as set out in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.
