Study help (B1)

From 26 March 2027, most people applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (settlement) will need to pass a B2 Speaking & Listening test.

ILR (settlement) applicants from BN(O), HM Armed Forces or Domestic Worker (Private household) visa routes are exempt from this and will continue to need to pass a B1 Speaking & Listening test.

Our B2 Speaking & Listening test (GESE Grade 7) will be available later this year. Learn more here.

No changes will apply to other immigration routes. If you are unsure which test you need, please check with UK Visas and Immigration here.
