Celebrate International Music Day 2026 with us
International Music Day takes place on 1 October 2026 and it celebrates the power of music to bring people together, inspire creativity and create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part.
At its heart is a simple idea: music belongs to everyone.
The day is an opportunity to celebrate music in all its forms — from first lessons and classroom music-making to performances, ensembles, composition and lifelong learning. It also recognises the teachers, musicians and organisations that make those opportunities possible.
To mark the occasion, we’re celebrating the teachers, schools, music organisations, Hubs and Services that help keep music playing every day — with a special prize draw for UK and Ireland based music educators.

Looking for ways to celebrate with your students?
International Music Day is a great opportunity to give students a different way to explore, create and share music. We’ve put together a new blog post with a collection of practical ideas for teachers, including activities that encourage performance, creativity, collaboration and student choice.
You could try a 60-second performance challenge, create a class soundtrack, run a musical skills swap or ask students to reimagine a familiar piece in a completely different style.
