Task It Up: Ideas to Promote Genuine Communication in the Classroom

The presenter went through the role of tasks in the language classroom and considered how we can adapt coursebooks and other published materials to better meet students’ needs. By revisiting some key concepts in communicative approaches such as Task-based language teaching, Content-based instruction, and Participatory Approaches, participants were invited to tweak, adapt and tailor existing resources to make them more appropriate for a variety of learning and teaching contexts. 

This webinar explored:

  • The concept of pedagogical and communicative tasks 
  • Key concepts in communicative approaches  
  • Ideas for creating suitable tasks with a focus on natural communication 
  • Ways of adapting published materials and resources to make them more relevant to learners

About the presenter

Andréia Zakime is a teacher trainer based in Barcelona. She started her career as a teacher in São Paulo, Brazil, and has since worked with teaching, teacher education, materials writing and assessment. She is an experienced CELTA and Trinity Diploma trainer, and she holds an MA in Publishing with a focus on Digital Learning technologies. She is currently the DipTESOL Course Director at Oxford TEFL Barcelona.
