Nivaldo

Name: Nivaldo
Background: From Angola to Portugal to now the UK, Nivaldo has settled in this country to raise his two children.

At 18 Nivaldo left his family in Angola to move to Portugal, to study business management at university. After 10 years in Portugal he came on holiday to the UK to visit a friend and after enjoying the time he spent in London decided that he would like to move there too.

Shortly afterwards he landed in the UK, began to work in customer service, and started studying English. Fast forward 14 years and Nivaldo had married and had two daughters.

He wanted to formalise his status in the UK and apply for his British Citizenship and as part of this process, he approached a local training provider to help prepare him for his English language test. He undertook several classes with the training provider to ensure that he was fully prepared when the time came to sit his Secure English Language Test (SELT) with Trinity College London.

“The time during the test seemed to go past so quickly. I was nervous but when I saw the examiner on the tablet I relaxed and just was myself.”

He has now completed a finance and accounting foundation course and is currently working towards a degree in the subject at Canterbury University.

“I want to open my own business here in the UK and continue to provide for my children.”
