International Playhouse ‘Shakes-Share’ project

14 Dec 2016

Last month, Trinity College London partnered with International House World Organisation (IHWO)International House London and the Arts Educational Schools London to produce ‘Shakes-Share’, the first International Playhouse project which took place in London from 11-13 November. The event saw around 50 teenage students from International House Ancona and Jesi in Italy, International House Voronezh in Russia and the Leyton Sixth Form College in the UK take part in a number of different cultural and linguistic exchange events.

The central theme of the weekend’s events was Shakespeare, to tie in with Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary celebrations taking place this year.

Each group of students gave a performance in the theatre of Leyton Sixth Form College on Sunday 13 November. The Italian group performed ‘Shakespeare in a Box III’, a bilingual play combining Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’, the poetry of Giovanni Pascoli and the music of Madonna. The group from Russia performed ‘Shakespearia’, a piece which presents one of the plot-lines from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Leyton Sixth Form College performed their version of ‘Macbeth’.

The weekend also included a day of drama workshops on Saturday 12 November, held at International House in Covent Garden and led by Arts Educational Schools tutors, as well as the directors of the Italian and Russian theatre projects.

Each student taking part received a certificate from Trinity, as well as feedback from Trinity’s assessment team.
