We often assume that if learners know enough language, communication will follow. But classrooms tell us something different.

Learners may know the words, understand the grammar and still hesitate to use their voice. So perhaps the question is not simply how do we get them to speak, but what makes us want to speak in the first place?

Through drama, storytelling and imaginative interaction, this webinar explores how curiosity, identity, role and human connection can create genuine reasons to communicate.

Participants will experience practical approaches that move speaking beyond language production towards participation, agency and voice.

About Manuela Kelly Calzini

Manuela Kelly Calzini is Senior Academic for English Language at Trinity College London Italy and an adjunct lecturer in Primary Education Sciences at the University of Florence.

Her work explores what happens when language learning moves beyond knowing English towards having the confidence and desire to use it.

Her particular interests include teaching speaking, storytelling, drama, oracy, mediation and communicative language teaching.

As a teacher educator, she works with teachers across educational contexts to explore practical ways of creating classrooms where learners can experiment, imagine, take communicative risks and find their voice. She believes that communication is not simply a language skill, but a profoundly human one.
