Moth to the Flame is Pick of The Fringe

7 Aug 2012
Moth to the Flame will be part of Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe showcase today, taking place at 1pm at the Pleasance Courtyard. Moth to the Flame is on at Paradise in the Vault until Wednesday 8 August. The play, by Annie McCourt from County Durham, won first prize in Trinity College London’s International Playwriting Competition in 2011 in the category Plays for Teenage Audiences.

What seems to be a portrayal of first love between streetwise city girl Phoebe, played by Katurah Morrish, and country bumpkin Dickie, played by Joe Spence, soon turns into a much darker story.

Director Tom Foster said, “Kat and Joe have been excellent to work with; they are hungry to explore and Annie's play is an excellent playground for young actors to have fun in by exploring different roles, a range of dialects, emotions, and ages. These young actors have created an energetic, rhythmic piece that is compelling to watch.”

The play debuted on Monday 6 August and Hannah Buckley from Edfringe Review said,” Moth to the flame is sharp, dramatic and creative. It is well written and well directed. With the brilliant performers that it has it is ultimately an enjoyable play to go and see.”

You can watch the play until Wednesday 8 August at Paradise in St Augustine’s at 11:15 and again at 18:15 at Paradise in the Vault. To book tickets visit www.trinitycollege.co.uk/fringe

The 2010 award winning play Normal, performed by the Perth Youth Theatre, is being staged from 9 -11 August Paradise in St Augustine’s at 11:15. To book tickets visit www.trinitycollege.co.uk/fringe
