International Playwriting Competition takes Centre Stage

On Sunday the 31st of October, Trinity College London hosted its first International Playwriting Competition at the Garrick Theatre in London’s West End. Aspiring playwrights across the world submitted one act plays for audiences of children and young people.

South African, Andre Lemmer won first place in the category of ‘Audiences of 11 Years Old and Under’ with his play Isilwanyana Esoyikekayo. In this highly entertaining story, a young boy called Thabo enchants the Isilwanyana Esoyikekayo monster with his whistle when fetching fruit from the forest.

In the category of ‘Audiences of 12-16 Years Old’ Paul Wallis from Yeovil won first place with his inspirationally thought provoking play ‘Normal’.
