Drum Kit & Percussion 2020-2023 Syllabus

12 Sep 2019

We are very pleased to announce the launch of our Drum Kit & Percussion 2020-2023 Syllabus, which can be used for exams from 1 January 2020.

Trinity’s Drum Kit & Percussion Syllabus 2020-2023 has performance at its heart, enabling learners to develop the tools they will need to succeed as drummers, and allowing them to gain recognition for their own unique skills as performers.

Style

This syllabus gives drummers a range of authentic styles to master, including jazz, funk, showtunes, film and TV, Latin, reggae and swing. Percussion exams cover the full-range of orchestral instruments with refreshed repertoire for tuned percussion, snare drum and timpani.

Technique

Our syllabus develops instrument-specific technique with bespoke rudiment exercises for drum kit and enhanced technical work for orchestral percussion

Pro-skills

Developed with professional drummers and percussionists, our online support videos demonstrate drum kit exercises on split-screen, show you what an exam is like, explore pro technique and explore where our exams can take you available at: trinitycollege.com/percussion-resources.

Books and Backing tracks

Drum Kit books in three volumes covering Initial-Grade 8 contain the wide variety of styles in the syllabus with downloadable professional backing tracks and demos included, with the option to additional repertoire from Introducing Drum Kit or Raise the Bar Drum Kit at all grades. Percussion repertoire features a wide range of newly-added pieces, including options from Introducing Percussion.

As usual, a one year overlap arrangement will be in place, during which time candidates may offer pieces and technical work requirements from either syllabus, but not a mixture of both.
