154 years: looking back through time with Trinity College London colleagues

5 Jun 2026

Trinity College London is celebrating 154 years!

As an awarding organisation and educational charity, Trinity offers Music, Drama, English Language and Teaching English qualifications in over 80 countries and more than 700,000 candidates worldwide take a Trinity College London exam each year.

This rich heritage is built with the support of colleagues, learners, teachers and a wide, global community of stakeholders. Staff across the organisation have strong connections to their work, often having been a candidate themselves!

To celebrate 154 years, Trinity College London colleagues share their journey, from those who have been with Trinity for 28 years, to others who joined as recently as last week! Here are some of their stories.

What first attracted you to Trinity?

“I came from a Trinity home, in that my mum was a teacher who sent all her students for Trinity music exams. I did my first exam with Trinity when I was around 5 years old! So, I’ve known Trinity since as early as I can remember, it’s always been a name in my home.

When I saw a job in Trinity for my area of expertise, I was keen to join, because I thought it would be ideal to have a job that married up my love for the Law with my love for music. Trinity just made sense to me.”

— Ruth, Senior Legal Counsel & Data Protection Officer, working with Trinity for 6 years

“It was an educational organisation doing very positive things for lots of people around the world. I had previously been working in the city for a couple of large firms, which was very interesting work, but working at Trinity has more of human touch because you can see the results of what you are doing.”

— Clive, Website and Online Content Manager, working with Trinity for 12 years.

“Having completed the Trinity CertTESOL course, I was ready to look for a part-time job teaching English... but then an advertisement in the newspaper caught my eye. Part-time work from home. Perfect!”

— Jenny, New Zealand National Administrator, working with Trinity for 22.5 years

Job description

The original job advertisement in the paper that Jenny had seen.

“My background was in stage management. I love the stage, the theatre. So that’s what attracted me to Trinity, and a part of what’s made me stay.”

— Georgia, Technical Content Manager (Performance), working with Trinity for 28 years

Do you remember your first day?

It was at Regents Park Crescent, which is an older building opposite Regent’s Park. I remember that everyone was really friendly and by the end of my first week they all knew my name, including the CEO and three directors!

I just felt very welcome.

— Georgia, Technical Content Manager (Performance), working with Trinity for 28 years

I was based in New Delhi, India, which was also my work location. My first day felt like joining a close-knit, collaborative team. Despite being a small group, everyone was welcoming, which helped me settle in quickly and feel valued from the start.

— Sakshi, Senior Partner - International Strategy, working with Trinity for 7 years

“It was COVID and I joined when we were all remote. Noone could come into the office.  So, my first day was logging into the computer and seeing my boss on Teams.”

— Ruth, Senior Legal Counsel & Data Protection Officer, working with Trinity for 6 years

“Better than my first day at Trinity, I remember my first day at the (UK) office, in Blue Fin. Finally meeting in the flesh dozens of colleagues that I had been interacting with via MS Teams for a year and half was an amazing experience.”

— Frederic, Director, Trinity College London Spain, working with Trinity for 5 years

“I was very nervous, but also very optimistic about coming here. It was a sunny day. I remember when I came into the building and pressed the bell, one person, Barry openly smiled and welcomed me and was so happy. And I thought, wow, I am in a safe space, and everything is going to be ok! Everyone was very friendly and it went well overall.”

— Nayhara, SELT Marketing Executive, working with Trinity for 1 month

“My first day was really fun! The office is in a great location – on the Southbank with the London Eye in the background. I was made to feel really welcome, and everyone was so nice! It was a great first impression of what working at Trinity was going to be like.”

— Laura, Social Media Marketing Executive, working with Trinity for 1 week

Are there any milestones during your time that you’d like to share with us?

“I’ll never forget my first Trinity Days series: a full tour of face-to-face events that brought to life all the work and effort invested during the previous months. Seeing people engage with the projects in person was incredibly rewarding, and it made me feel truly welcomed as part of the Trinity community.”

— Giulia, Marketing Manager - Italy, working with Trinity for 3 years

“I joined and I was just working on one part of what we do which is called Arts Award, and in 2017, my job expanded to cover everything we do here at Trinity. So, music, drama, Arts Award, language, the whole range. It was quite a scary time learning about all those new things. I remember it because I spent maybe the first 6 months having those moments of “oh, I don’t know if I can do this”… and then realising I was actually doing it!

During my time at Trinity, I also had my son. He’s 10 and a half now! So, I’ve been a parent at Trinity for longer than I haven’t been. I’ve found Trinity to be a really supportive place for me as a parent. I came back and have been really supported to be both a parent and an employee here at Trinity.”

— Kate, Head of Sector Support - UK&I, working with Trinity for 15 years

“The first is deeply personal. In May 2022, during an event in Milan attended by important stakeholders from the Italian Ministry of Education, Claudia Beccheroni, the previous Director, announced publicly that I would become the new Director. My father was there that day. We had recently lost my mother, and I will never forget the emotion and pride in his eyes.

The second memorable experience was the opportunity to work closely with former Minister Luigi Berlinguer, who taught me a principle that still guides my professional life today: “Emiliano, remember that if there is a problem, there is always a solution.”

The third was meeting Her Royal Highness Princess Anne during an event organised by the British Embassy in Milan. She showed genuine interest in Trinity’s work and educational mission, and it was a truly inspiring moment.”

— Emiliano, Director, Trinity College London - Italy & Central Europe, working with Trinity for 14 years

What made you stay with Trinity?

“I think it's the people. I work across teams and countries and I enjoy working with the people that I work with. I feel like I connect with them, and I think we get on! I also like the collaborative culture. We've had a lot of change the last few years and I’ve been quite impressed at how everyone comes together, and it’s been nice to be a part of that. Also, I stay for the work. It's incredibly varied. There's no two days in my diary that are the same.”

— Ruth, Senior Legal Counsel & Data Protection Officer, working with Trinity for 6 years

One of the most meaningful moments in my journey was the support I received from my colleagues after the loss of my father almost three years ago. Their kindness and humanity during such a difficult time showed me the true value of Trinity’s people and culture.

— Rocío, Operations and Customer Care Coordinator – Argentina, working with Trinity for 5 years

“I stayed because I’ve consistently had strong learning opportunities and great people to work with. Since both my professional growth and team experience have been fulfilled here, I’ve never felt the need to look for opportunities elsewhere.”

— Sakshi, Senior Partner - International Strategy, working with Trinity for 7 years

“I think what made me stay at Trinity is the fact it’s a very nice organisation to work within, people are experts in their field. And, what we do makes a difference to people, it helps them. These are very positive things.”

— Clive, Website and Online Content Manager, working with Trinity for 12 years

“For me what I’ve really enjoyed is the human sense, it’s like being part of a family really. Working in this wonderfully creative environment with wonderfully creative people. Also, how my job has changed. As well as seeing Trinity develop as an organisation, I feel its developed me as a person as well. Like the theatre, it’s never the same. Day-by-day, week-by-week, it’s different. Wonderful creative environment with really interesting people.”

— Georgia, Technical Content Manager (Performance), working with Trinity for 28 years

“Reaching 154 years is something to genuinely celebrate. Since 1872, Trinity has been shaped by extraordinary people - colleagues, educators and learners - all connected by a shared purpose and a passion for making a difference.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, particularly over the past year, and of the core values that guide how we work and grow. They are what ensure our heritage remains relevant today and for the future.

Here’s to everything we’ve built and to the next 154 years of impact, innovation and opportunity.”

— Erez Tocker, Trinity College London CEO
