Listening is so automatic that a lot of the time we don’t even notice we’re doing it – until there is some kind of challenge, that is.

Luke Harding explains what shapes the ability to perceive and process sounds, describes the ways in which listening can be tested, given that it is difficult to observe, and sheds light on the seemingly trivial question of why it matters if candidates hear a listening text once or twice.
