Kayleigh's story

Name: Kayleigh Hampton
Location: United Kingdom
Trinity qualification: Grade 5 - Rock & Pop Vocals

TrinityTalent celebrated musician Kayleigh started singing and performing at the age of four. Now, at aged 17 she has completed her Grade 5 Vocals, overcoming significant personal challenges in the process.

Nine months before sitting her exam, Kayleigh was diagnosed with a CpG blood infection, which left her with no voice control, tone or structure. Altogether she was in and out of hospital for six months whilst overcoming her illness which presented a real challenge..

“During the practice and process of doing this exam I had to build myself back up from nothing.”

Kayleigh is particularly grateful for the support her singing teacher, Steve Lowndes, provided during her recovery. She said he pushed for her to build herself back up after her illness, and continued to support her even when she was no longer in his lessons.

Being able to complete the Trinity exam was a real personal achievement for Kayleigh, and its significance extends beyond the receipt of the qualification.

“The exam motivated me as it was something that I wanted to do. I didn’t want it just to say I got it, I wanted it because it meant something to me. Achieving my exam means I’ve got something behind me and I can keep pushing forward from that. It has motivated me to do better in my life and overcome every goal that I can.”

“This shows that I can achieve what I want to achieve.”

Kayleigh has now set her sights on the future, and her Trinity qualification has given her the confidence and motivation she needed. She looks to Demi Lovato and Amy Winehouse for creative inspiration, and would one day love to collaborate with Adele.

“I plan to get more gigs and put myself out there, and expand further in the future. I’d like to go back to writing my own songs.”

If you’re considering a Trinity music exam, Kayleigh was emphatic in her endorsement of it.

“I found the process easy to follow because it was very structured. It’s allowed me to exceed my goals, and prove to myself I can achieve whatever I put my mind to.

So do it. Practice, then go ahead and do it.”
