Trinity’s new Music Performance Diplomas Syllabus is now available

18 Oct 2018

We’re delighted to announce that our new Music Performance Diplomas Syllabus is now available, for exams starting 1 August 2019.

Performance pathways

Begin your journey into professional musicianship, building a programme you can be confident in and that reflects you as a musician. Choose your pieces from our newly expanded and regularly updated repertoire lists, which include trusted and popular choices made by fellow teachers and candidates over the years, or submit your own-choice pieces (or a mixture of both).

Performance recognition
Gain a respected qualification that fully reflects your performance standard. Our mark scheme is now more heavily weighted towards performance, allowing you to make your exam performance matter.

Performance expertise
Enjoy dedicated support and an enhanced experience. Use our improved online approvals form, receive timely feedback on your programme from our expert panel, and benefit from support resources and clearer syllabus advice.

The Music Performance Diplomas Syllabus from 2019 features:

  • Repertoire lists have been refreshed and extended with over 1,200 new pieces, providing candidates with a wider range of suggested programme content
  • Repertoire lists are now exclusively available online, and will be updated periodically with newly-approved own-choice pieces, including trusted and popular choices made by fellow teachers and candidates over the years
  • Updated assessment criteria provide greater clarity and increased detail on how the exam is marked
  • Detailed programme notes are no longer required for ATCL and LTCL
  • Increased mark weighting for performance means candidates can be sure that their result fully reflects their performance standard
  • A faster online programme approvals submission process means candidates receive timely feedback on their programme from our expert panel
  • Digital support resources providing teachers and learners with support and advice on repertoire and technique are available on our Music Resources website

The new syllabus continues to feature the majority of the pieces currently in the 2009-2018 syllabus*, which means candidates can continue to prepare for their examination whichever date they choose.

The 2009-2018 syllabus will be extended until 31 July 2019. The new, 'from 2019', syllabus will be used from 1 August 2019 onwards.

Please note that there will be no overlap between syllabuses, so all exams from 1 August 2019 onwards will follow the 'from 2019' syllabus.

*A small number of existing pieces from the 2009-2018 syllabus are being removed. Full details about these pieces will be available soon.
