Trinity College London celebrates 150 years

1 Jun 2022

Trinity College London, the leading international exam board and independent education charity, is delighted to be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022.

The history of the institution began when the Church Choral Society and College of Church Music formed in London in 1872. In 1877 Trinity College London was established as an exam board for what was now Trinity College of Music, making it the very first music exam board. The first tests were in elementary musical knowledge, quickly expanding to full practical music exams. Just two years later these exams were being taken in 200 centres throughout the UK. In 1992, Trinity College London was registered as a charity with the Charity Commission in the UK and is known around the world for its focus on music, communication and performance.

Over the months ahead we will be celebrating our 150th year and heritage. Look out for news and social media stories reflecting what Trinity means to the 850,000 candidates in more than 60 countries around the world who take Trinity qualifications in English Language, Music, and Drama every year.

In the meantime, for more about our history, ethos and charitable activities see our brand new, illustrated Trinity Timeline.
