Our new Classical Guitar Syllabus is now available

7 Nov 2019

We are excited to announce the launch of our Classical Guitar 2020-2023 Syllabus, which can be used for exams from 1 January 2020. This is the first of two new guitar syllabuses launching this autumn - details of the brand new Acoustic Guitar syllabus will be available next month.

Trinity’s refreshed Classical Guitar syllabus offers the choice and flexibility to allow classical guitarists to play to their strengths, offering wide-ranging repertoire choices as well as exercises designed to progressively develop the technique classical guitarists really need from the early grades right the way through to Grade 8.

Styles

Inspiring repertoire in new books from Initial to Grade 8 featuring works from the Renaissance to the present day, pieces published for the first time, the inclusion of more repertoire by female composers and the duets option extended to Grade 5.

Books

Greater flexibility to personalise the exam experience by offering open choice repertoire lists up to and including Grade 5 and even greater choice through expanded alternative piece lists, including options from Trinity's own Raise The Bar and Performance Edition series of publications.

Technique

Technical work includes specially composed exercises for each grade, covering the technique required specifically by guitarists, ensuring that all learners put scales and arpeggios into the performance context.

Benefit from industry experience

The syllabus and supporting books have been created in consultation with leading classical guitar specialists. You can access videos and articles produced to support teaching and learning including demo videos of pieces, technical work, advice and support from professionals. Join us online and on social media to find out more.

As usual, a one year overlap arrangement will be in place, during which time candidates may offer pieces and technical work requirements from either syllabus, but not a mixture of both.
