Diploma in English Language Teaching Management

Final awarding date: 31 March 2019

The Diploma in English Language Teaching Management (DELTM) international qualification was offered in partnership by English UK and Trinity College London. The DELTM was designed to meet the needs of those in English Language teaching who have line management requirements as part of their role. This ranged from those who were senior teachers or teacher trainers to directors of studies or school principals. The aims of the course were to enhance candidates’ management skills and expertise, increasing their ability to manage teams and organisations as well as improving their ability to deliver quality products to both external and internal clients.

The course comprised 655 hours of study and was assessed by 4 x 3,500-word assignments and 1 x 5,000-word project, with course content covering the following areas:

  • Organisational Behaviour
  • The 21st Century Manager
  • Human Resource Management – part one
  • Human Resource Management – part two
  • Financial Management
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Academic Management
  • Specialist Course Management
  • The Customer Journey
  • Change Management

This qualification is still run through English UK.

 

Certificate in International Business English Training

Final awarding date: 31 December 2018

The Certificate in International Business English Training (Cert IBET) was developed from a joint partnership of English UK and Trinity College London with the aims of enhancing the skills and expertise of business English trainers, increasing their employability prospects in this sector and improving their ability to deliver a quality product to potential clients. This was not regulated by Ofqual, meaning that there is no qualification level attached to the qualification.

The Cert IBET with Trinity consisted of 10 core modules run over a minimum 50-hour course:

  • Definitions of business English 
  • Concepts and language in a business context
  • Needs analysis and research
  • Materials and resources
  • Internationalism
  • Course and syllabus design
  • Methods, approaches and techniques
  • Business communication skills development (module 1)
  • Business communication skills development (module 2)
  • Assessment and evaluation

This qualification is still run through English UK.

 

Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology (CertICT)

Final awarding date: 31 December 2018

The Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology (CertICT) was designed and developed by The Consultants-E and awarded by Trinity College London. The course examined a range of useful technology-related skills and tools applicable in the language classroom. Course participants developed basic computer literacy skills, learnt about various approaches to using technology in the classroom, explored (free) online tools, and had the opportunity to put these into practice over the duration of the course itself. This was not regulated by Ofqual, meaning that there is no qualification level attached to the qualification.

The online course consisted of 3 modules spanning 120 hours of work over 22 weeks:


Module 1: ICT essentials for language teachers

  • Working with video; Security & e-safety
  • Digital literacies. Videoconference 2
  • Planning & implementing web-based lessons
  • Webquests & digital storytelling

  • Using wikis with learners
  • Mobile learning & blended learning. Videoconference 2
  • Evaluating ICT courseware
  • Digital assessment
  • Integrating ICT into the syllabus. Videoconference 3
  • ePortfolios & online CPD


Module 3: ICT Course Project

  • Planning your project. Videoconference 1
  • Implementing your project. Videoconference 2
  • Reviewing and reflecting on your project & writing your project report


This qualification is still run through The Consultants-E.

 

Fellowship Diploma in TESOL Education Studies (Level 7)

Final awarding date: 30 July 2018

The research-focused 240-credit Level 7 Fellowship Diploma in TESOL Education Studies (FTCL TESOL) was created to encourage teachers and teacher managers to:

  • describe and contextualise the design and implementation of an appropriate project in a structured and principled manner, giving consideration to the teacher’s immediate and wider educational contexts;
  • reflect critically on the work undertaken and propose adaptations as appropriate; and
  • contribute to the documented archive of the English language profession in a way that was developmental and stimulating for other participants.

There was no formal course of study for this qualification. Candidates demonstrated the following competencies through the completion of an 11,500-12,500-word dissertation and viva on the research topic:

  • Competence and responsibility in planning and implementing a meaningful and viable project to meet the needs of a specific group of professionals and/or learners working in a clearly defined context
  • Subject specific knowledge and professional judgement in recognising and understanding the challenges and contextual factors relevant to the project, and employing the appropriate methodology where relevant
  • Interpersonal, consultative, administrative and professional management skills in carrying out the project, with regard for economic factors
  • The faculty for self-critical awareness and personal, professional development in evaluating the outcomes of the project, recognising both the shortcomings and strengths of the project as delivered, and the ways in which it might be improved for the benefit of current and future participants
  • Clarity and communicative competence of written and oral expression in describing, justifying and evaluating the planning, conduct and outcomes of the project

This was a Trinity College London award not offered by any other institution.

 

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Level 4)

Final awarding date: 31 December 2016

The 12-credit Level 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) was run as part of the Lifelong Learning Sector (Further Education) suite of UK state-sector qualifications. Awarded by some boards at Level 3, Trinity’s PTTLS course was developed to run in tandem with the CertTESOL or be run independently as a generic teaching qualification, awarding a ‘Threshold Licence to Teach’ in Further Education.

PTLLS was delivered over a minimum 48-hour course which covered the following areas:

  • The roles and responsibilities
  • Legislative requirements and codes and principles
  • Points of referral
  • Techniques for embedding literacy, numeracy and ICT
  • Strategies to promote and ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Planning and teaching (through a micro-teach assignment)
  • Assessment & evaluation
  • Continuing professional development

PTLLS is no longer awarded by any exam boards, but has been replaced by the Level 3 Award in Education (AET) and Training. The AET is not offered by Trinity.
