The most basic, but valuable type of initial TESOL or TEFL training for those with little or no prior qualifications or teaching experience is the kind of training offered through Trinity’s Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL).

This involves a minimum number of course hours (90 hours of input over a minimum of a 130 hour programme), with a minimum amount of teaching practice with learners of English and a range of written and practical assignments to be completed to well-defined standards. All course providers (training organisations) are rigorously assessed and externally validated by Trinity. They are monitored carefully over all their courses.

The CertTESOL study resources provide an introduction to the skills needed to complete the Trinity CertTESOL. This information is for those with little or no ESOL teaching experience, who are thinking of - or planning to - train.
