Trinity College Londonís Music app wins BETT Award for Best Educational App

24 January 2019

The Play Trinity Rock & Pop App has won the 2019 BETT Award for Best Educational App. The BETT Awards are a celebration of the inspiring creativity and innovation that can be found throughout technology for education and were hosted in London on Wednesday 23 January.

The app is part of Trinity’s Rock & Pop offering and represents the organisation’s core aims of encouraging learners to perform using a range of assessments, books and digital resources that have a positive impact on teaching and learning. The app puts musicians in control of their practice and performance by giving them the opportunity to act as both the artist and producer of the Rock & Pop songs they know and love.

Available for both Android and Apple devices, the app’s digital mixing desk interface allows users to alter the mix, adjust the pitch/tempo, and record themselves ‘playing in the band’ alongside professional session musicians. As well as supporting practice, it also introduces young musicians to audio production technology.

The app forms part of a full range of Trinity Rock & Pop releases for contemporary musicians including graded exam books, assessments and free supporting resources.

Scrutinised by a judging panel that included the Head of Education Strategy for PWC, Digital Editor of TES Global, Head of Technology at the Department for Education and Director of Innovation at The Telegraph Group the judges said that: ‘this app provided an innovative opportunity for students to develop their music skills, practice and perform with session musicians, putting the students at the heart of the learning behind their own mixing deck using a range of instruments and vocals with a wide range of songs and artists at an affordable price point.’

CEO of Trinity College London, Sarah Kemp said: ‘Throughout its 140-year history Trinity has sought to support teachers, inspire musicians and make high quality learning accessible across all musical genres. We are thrilled that this new app is providing our Rock & Pop teachers and learners with a new way of engaging with our content, and enabling us to reach new audiences around the world.’

Play Trinity Rock & Pop is available in the App Store and on Google Play. The full suite of Trinity Rock & Pop products, including the app, is available at www.trinityrock.com.
